When a world leading manufacturer and global supplier of alternative fuels came to Harmony Environmental, the challenge wasn’t just technical, it was human.
The company had been operating for a number of years with a management system that had evolved in two distinct parts: one developed for the factory floor, and another for the management team. Both were written by different people, shaped by different working styles, and designed to serve very different day-to-day realities.
Bringing them together under a single, unified ISO certification was a goal that required more than good documentation, it needed genuine collaboration.
With HSQE responsibilities spread across both factory operations and management, the gap between the two parts of the business was as much cultural as it was organisational. Staff across the board needed to engage with the system, but the two teams had their own rhythms, their own ways of working, and their own approaches to compliance.
The risk in a situation like this is easy to see:
Getting everyone pulling in the same direction, without erasing the things that made each team work well, was the real task.
Harmony Environmental worked closely alongside both the factory-based consultant and the management team, maintaining an ongoing dialogue throughout the process. Rather than imposing a single template, the focus was on understanding how each side of the business actually operated and building a system around that reality.
Clear roles and responsibilities were established early, giving everyone a defined stake in the process.
Where the two systems had previously operated in parallel, they were carefully integrated, preserving what worked, aligning what needed to align.
What could easily have become a source of conflict became, instead, a genuinely collaborative process. The two teams functioned as one unit, and the management system reflected that.
In September 2025, our client achieved unified ISO certification spanning both management and factory operations: a single system, written to serve the whole business.
It’s a result that reflects not just technical compliance, but a more connected, better-functioning organisation.
